I've just bought some insurance for my new Disco and they want proof of my 3 year's NCD. How do I go about getting it? The insurance on which I have accrued the NCD, on my old Series, runs out in 10 days or so. I've never been asked to provide proof before, I would have thought they could have seen form their info-sharing database that I haven't claimed since I started driving?

My new insurer is the Americanism for a motorway, and my old policy is with a very large grey land mammal.

thanks,

Matt

When the old policy expires, they'll send out the proof if you're not renewing.

You can ask your current insurance company for a letter or if your renewal has come through it normally states NCD applicable and copy of this to your new company suffice.

Exactly this, usually if you ask for it they just send you a renewal through again as this has your NBC on it

thanks guys, the new insurers want proof though before my old policy expires. if I ring the old insurers and explain the old car is off the road so categorically wont be claimed on in the last 10 days or so of their policy, will they send out the certificate? or would I be better explaining to the new company that i'm in the process of obtaining it, and that to be fair i've missed almost half of their deadline window due to being on holiday (which I did explain in a previous phone call to them)?

If the old policy is going to expire in 10 days then have they not sent through a renewal proposal?

If you have insured your new car before your old insurance runs out (albeit a few days) I am pretty sure they will only count it as a 2 year discount rather than 3. At least they something similar to that to me on 2 motorbikes I had.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news if this is the case.

With Elephant, you can register online and download all the paperwork ...

Or they will send you one if you ask for it, although if it runs out in 10 days, you would normally already have received their renewal pack, which will contain the NCD.

This, also do not mention if any circumstances have changed as they will cancel your policy early and you will lose a years NCB.

They can get shirty if it's a different vehicle and the policy has different start dates so sometimes worthwhile sending a covering letter

This hasn't been the case for me. I was with AXA before and they gave me a full years NCB even though I cancelled it 3/4 through the policy (due to getting free insurance on my new car). I even posted a thread letting everyone know how highly I recommended them.
