Why is it so difficult to get a long term let, my wife and I are both 50 + and not DSS!

Personally I would have asked that question either in The Lounge or Homes, Gardens and DIY.

Or the pub.

Or to my wife.

Seriously? I'd be over the moon with a long term let why would a landlord not be?

what do you mean exactly by long-term - years? A landlord would want flexibility incase situations change - hence a year long tenancy with renewal options is going to be most likely

Because tennents can be scum s so it is essential business practice to always keep them on short term rental contracts.

Blame UK landlord & tennent law. On the continent the landlord is protected, in the UK the protection, for what it is worth, is only credible for short term leases.
