Can anyone recommend me one?

Needs to fit 4/5 people and (a bit) of luggage, possibly with roofbox, but not be too huge. Be reliable and economical, and not much else.

So far I have got on the list:

Peugeot 406
Citroen C5
Ford Mondeo

Skipped Lagunas due to horror stories, and don't like Vauxhall so I'll give them a miss.

Might get a leggy A4 Estate under budget.

I bought an 03 plated Octavia for just under £3k thhis time last year ... if you can find one for sub £2k (not looked myself) at a bit older then they are bloody good cars. Mine does 750 miles per week at 55-60MPG for work and takes all the st I can throw at it (tip runs, grand kids, dogs, festivals etc) at the weekend.

I've heard too many horror stories involving dual mass flywheels and injectors on the Ford so would be more likely to go down the VAG PD range which have a less refined but simpler engine at this price range.

Is it only the TDCI 130 that has those problems? There are some Mondeos out there with some pretty hefty mileages out there, which does give a bit of confindence I suppose.

V40 estate worth a look?
