An Aussie needs help buying a car

G'day,
I've found a car I want to buy in West Sussex, a 205, and want to get an inspection done as I live 6,000 miles away and there's no bus. I found a company called Dekra but they only do cars up to 15 years old. Can anyone recommend an inspection service for me? I'd also like someone to be able to verify VIN numbers, whether the car is encumbered etc - do the UK inspection companies do that as I won't be able to verify VINS etc from down under.

AA or RAC might be able to help. To be honest though, I think you would be better off giving that money to someone as fuel money to check the car for you. There are lots of 205 nuts here who could help you out.

Serious question, why do you want to import something like a 205? That is a huge task for such a car!

P.S yes most inspection companys will verify VIN numbers and mileage.

You could ask the seller to take it into Broadbridge Heath Garage http://www.broadbridgeheathgarage.co.uk/ in Horsham who are also known as Just GTis http://www.justgtis.com/ and pay to have an MOT done. James the owner is a very friendly guy and as well as checking all the usual MOT things would know exactly what areas to check as he is a 205 specialist.

S1 & S2 gtis here in aus were detuned for the climate and the so-so fuel quality. Which means you need an S3 but finding one in white is impossible. They only had about 2,500 broughht over and never had the following like the UK so many examples were just wifey shopping cars, have high Kms and and have been binned for being old.
So there's more choice in the UK, plus I have a thing for the two tone fabric/half leather seats which never came here either.
Total import costs are $4,000 so about three thousand quid. When you add that to the price of the car it's still less than the equivalent would be, assuming I could find one, here.

OP - Its a CTi rather than a GTi but it does look pretty special. Only 18k miles!

If you're going to spend all that money on exporting a 205 it'd make sense to buy the very best one you could find.
