Side Exhaust, Fibreglass, Ticking Firebomb?

Basically had this lovely exhaust made for my 7.

I don't really want to wrap it in heat wrap, as would rather show off somebody's hard work.


But is the heat from the manifold (engine is a 2008 R1) likely to start melting the fibreglass, or worse catch fire?




So what do you guys think?

What clearance have you got around the hole? The sides look fine.

Ceramic coat it? Still shows off the fine work, but keeps a bit more heat in.

I can't see it catching fire anytime soon, what temperatures do you reckon it might reach?

The closest pipe is 15mm from fibreglass.

Im also thinking of how hot it will be under the bonnet?

Im not really sure how hot they will get.

Could you not put some sort of heatproofing around the opening in the body, to try to protect it from getting too hot, instead of covering up the (very shiny ) exhaust?

Not as efficient as just covering the source, but may work out?

Its a long shot, but if the fibreglass made use of a phenolic resin it would be fire resistant.

It's only going to get really hot when it's being thrashed, so if it's got sufficient venting for the heat to escape, which it looks like it has, it'll be blown out well in advance of melting the resin. You may see slight scorch marks on the panel after a long run but they should just polish out.

If you're really worried about it, could you replace the panel for an aluminium one?

Thanks, i might just widen the hole slightly at the top.

And just keep an eye on things when

As said there should be plenty of air flow.
