With the exception of the North American market S52, all normally aspirated BMW M car engines have featured an indvidual throttle per cylinder, likewise the Z8 that shares the E39 M5's S62 V8 and also the McLaren F1's S70/2 V12.

OK, I'm going to get slated for this, but what advantage do they have and how do they differ from other cars?

As far as I am aware, having the throttle plate as close as possible to the intake valves will mean a faster response as there isn't a few litres of vacuum (or at least low pressure) in a plenum for the air to get through first.

More power!!
Much more flexible and no compromise to the inlet side of things unlike a plenum chamber. None of the bodies are linked.
Just recently installed some on the 205 (see gallery)......did I mention the induction noise is unmistakablesmilesmile

190 upgrade for S1 Elise and Exige had ITBs I believe. Not exactly standard but available from Lotus.

My Caterham R500 has them as standard, and through the Pipercross Airfilter they make an addictive Induction noise.

Here is a picture when I was building the car:

The S1 Exige and 340R had ITBs as standard from the factory even with the 177bhp engine.
