So, the Mrs is learning to drive. At some point I'm going to need to get her a car.

What are some decent to drive cars insurable for a new driver?

I want to spend maybe one and a half sheds on it max. It needs to be a small-medium hatch (easy to park). I'd like to think it was reasonably well screwed together.

What I'd also like if possible is something enjoyable to drive despite having a tiny insurable engine on it. She's really not fussed about cars at the moment but I'd like to convert her by stealth.

I've got some ideas already obviously but I don't want to miss anything decent.

Sorry if this comes up often. Could not see it with search function despite seeming like a rather obvious question.

Fiesta should be decent to drive?

Or a C1/107/Aygo?

Ford Ka. Even if you only run it for a year or two, they have nice big plastic bouncy bumpers for new motorists to bend.

As already mentioned, Ford ka. Bought fixed and run for pennies. Or kia picanto? My mother runs one and loves it. She's not a new driver at all but It's small, user friendly and running costs are about as cheap as you could get.
