Ok Ive just sold my 2005 Seat Leon as I was not using it enough to justify keeping it, I also own a 1975 VW beetle which has had one owner from new and is in mint original condition so I won't want to be using in winter and bad weather. This leaves me needing a cheap car to get me to the station each day for university I will be covering about 50miles a week. I want something different and out of the ordinary preferably 20+ years old, Im only 21 so insurance is an issue and want to keep costs down so something with a small engine and is good on fuel and insurance. Any ideas? I was thinking along the lines on maybe a E30 1.6/8, Audi 80?

Im fairly new here so be kind biggrin

Volvo 240/940 estate. You might find a 1 owner full history car if you are lucky.

hahaha, its probably more than 50 miles really, its about 8 miles each way and rural so cycling would take about an hour each way, plus im lazy.

I do have a secret like for those especially in beige biggrin, the thing is I won't be doing any motorway miles or need that much space so it seems pointless lugging around that much weight.

Is it uphill both ways.

I can do 6 miles 'rural' 12 minutes in 18 back without getting a sweat up.

Having said that how about an e34 beemer?

Peugeot 106. Can push start it and it's a joy to thrash.

Cycling I would estimate 30-45 mins even if youre a lazy fatso.

I don't do it all the time but when I cycle to work, its 10.7 miles each way. I manage that in around 47mins on a hilly route. I am a lazy fatso. I would much prefer to cycle on rural roads than city so you have no excuse.

Get a decent road bike and save yourself a fortune. Put those savings into an ISA.

Sounds boring but you will wish you did when you finish Uni with £30k debts and can't get a job.

Otherwise, Fiat Cinquecento/Seicento Sporting. Group 3 insurance, 45mpg all day long. Well within budget.

A bike would be the sensible option, but I really don't want to be cycling in the middle of winter at 6am in the morning. I like e34's, I missed out on a mint 1 owner low millege poverty spec e28 last month.

You would be suprised how fun that is.

I used to get to work with a frozen beard biggrin Some decent gloves so your hands dont get frostbite and you wont even get a sweat on.

I have no debts I work at weekends to, so I need the car for that. My student loan is in an ISA so no worries there, I have money to spend on car and I want a car. 50miles a week was on the low side.

Sounds like a case for an MX5, maybe one with a hardtop for the winter.

Although way over budget I would be seriously tempted by this if it was closer.
