Do it. I got invited to one many moons ago to attend one in Berlin, all expenses paid. Sadly the person organising it cocked it up by mentioning that they sort of knew me and therefore it no longer counted as being independent so I couldn't go.
Colleagues who had gone to one previously (hence I was not an 'unknown independent' whatever that means) where whisked off to Germany to do a customer clinic for the Audi A6 where all they had to do was sit in a warehouse for an hour with the new A6 and benchmark cars to see how they liked it. For this they had 2 nights on the pop in a 5 star hotel.
