Does an A8 have a "ski hole" ?

I've not had a chance to go and look at any yet, but would the "last" model of A8, 2004-2011 (I think) be likely to have a flap/hole/fold-down-seat so I can get skis and snowboards in there?

I had a '98 S8 a few years back and the manual indicated it was an option that I didn't have..

Is it a rare as hens teeth option choice that I'm going to be tracking down for months to find on a used car?

Arse... this could be a show stopper to "Plan A8"

I just know it's going to be a mega rare option and I don't fancy getting one retrofitted, it would never be "right"....

What other AWD saloon economic barges are out there.. I cant think of any... bugger... back to the searching and if I cant find one it'll have to be another what car thread...

I don't know if it's rare, the A8 is my choice for my next car except until I saw one spilling out of a parking place that holds a LWB transit, the SWB A8 is around 5 meters long, a LWB transit looked around a foot longer.

But i'd still have one just for motorways, and the ski hatch may be a common pack option.

It offers amazing value for money

Thule make some handy ski racks. Not as secure as having skis in the car but an option.

I wouldn't get too hung up about it. I have it on our D2 A8. I've used it a couple of times, and frankly it is a bit of a pita. The skis poke through onto the front centre armrest and restrict your elbow movement considerably. They also divide the boot space in a way that was not convenient given the luggage we then had.

Now I think about it, this was so long ago that I had 2m+ skinny skis. Modern skis might not impinge so far into the cabin, but I wonder whether the hole would be big enough for two sets in a double ski bag.

Dont they bugger your fuel economy too?

I miss having fold down seats, and a ski hole.

Had to buy a roofrack, and I've decided I'm no worse off, and in many ways its better because the boot and interior will never have to deal with a christmas tree or dirty bike again!

Fuel economy is worse with stuff on the roof, mind.

Use a rack for mountain bikes regularly and not lost one yet! The way the Thule rack clamps skis I wouldn't have any worries.

I had a cycle rack on a 123D for a fair while and didn't notice much difference in MPG without it loaded.

Still the ability to make mountains is a handy one for a skier

You'll not get a snowboard in the ski sock if you do find one. I've got a Skoda Superb at the moment and from looking at S8's recently with a view to buying one the ski sock looks to be the same item, makes sense considering the VAG parts bin. The ski sock in the Superb will definitely not accommodate a snowboard with the bindings still attached, and even with the bindings off it'll only take one board :-(

Fortunately the Superb has massive rear legroom allowing boards, but no passengers.

Just seen some photos of the boot, looks to me like skis will go diagonally anyway! My board isn't very long and then GFs skis definitely aren't so it looks promising. Tempted to take them to the dealer and see if they fit!
