Choosing a car with specific requirements

Totally impossible!

Me and SWMBO are looking for a second car, £3000 absolute maximum budget.

She's had a Golf VR6, 350Z and a 325Ci
I've had 2 MX5s and a nk1 Golf GTi

So, she likes noise, I like handling.

As we both want to be happy, we need something which does both.

And can I think of anything, can I heck!

Any ideas?

Not a lot in the price range unfortunately - even exceptionally leggy S2000s seem to be a bit pricier (£3.5k)

I'd also have the problem of convincing the wife that something with loads of miles, like the integras in the price range, aren't a risk! She doesn't trust my judgment after the last time....

Don't really want another MX5, but that's the issue, theres nothing similar that I can think of.

Still struggling here but I've considered a few things;

Golf 4motion - good noise
200SX - good handling

Neither meet both criteria.
