Hey pheaders

I've had my fair share of cars with tints on the front and rear windows but just driven around and never had no issues when being pulled over by normal police I.e not traffic police. I've just purchased a mk5 r32 golf and I'm looking to get some tints sorted and out of evrey car I've ever owned its the first where I'm putting the tint on myself opposed to buying the car with it already done.

So I'm not really aware of the full ins and outs of window tinting laws. Im looking to get fully smoked rear windows and a medium tint on the front dose anyone know if it's illegal to have any tint on the front windows ?

All answers will be much appreciated smile

Any additional tint (beyond what the car left the factory with) applied to windows forward of the B pillar will be illegal IIRC

IIRC the fronts have to let in at least 70% light. Happy to be corrected.

You can tint all the rear windows any darkness you'd like, however the front passenger and driver side windows must let in 70% light.

Technically then, they can be tinted 30%, however from factory, most windows have a very slight shade of green and thus adding 30% tint will make them illegal.

Pretty sure all factory tints will on the front will be near to the 70 pcent limit. I seem to remember testing suggested that Audi green tint only lets 75pc through as standard.

Nothing on the front legally, anything you want around the back.
