Good drivers. How many are their?

By good drivers, I mean those who display a pretty high standard of competence. Pretty difficult to define really, but I mean those who would at least re-pass the driving test, but should really display driving skills at the top end of the spectrum. The reason I ask, is this morning, on my M25, M3 , A303 trip, I seemed to meet/encounter an above average number of complete idiots. So, if say 100 random drivers were tested, what do you think the score would be for a). Pass the existing driving test. b). Display driving skills at the top end of the spectrum. My guess. a). 1% b). None.

Ooh, I'd say i do. I rather pride myself on spotting them and enjoy watching good driving when I get to see it.I'm in a bit of a conundrum regarding the OP though. Naturally I think I'm an utter driving god, but if I had to take a driving test right now this minute I don't think I'd pass it.
Good drivers on Motorway, I say:
Don't lane hog, move back to the left (time and time again I see the left most 2 lanes are free yet the right hand 2 lanes are full of cars.
Using the slip road to accelerate to motorway speed. (More and more people are joining motorway too slowly, cause people to brake change lane etc.
Use their feaking mirrors before changing lanes.
Don't brake unnecessarily.
Anything else?

I've just spent the week driving round mainland Europe and whilst there are some crazy drivers I had no problems until I came back to England.
Just this morning I thought about overtaking a group of cars on a dual carriageway. The road merges shortly after a brow of a hill so I gave it some beans. As I reached the brow I realised the group were too tightly packed so I did the right thing, pulled back and filtered over in with the road markings.
I noticed a BMW in my rearview a fair distance away but as I was about half way over the line (filtering in) the guy in the beemer came screaming up, swerved round me and sat glued behind the car in front
So there I was, in the hashed area with oncoming traffic approaching and some knob in an M3 acting like a total dick.
Not content with forcing me out the way he then overtook the group of cars with a car approaching on the opposing lane, causing him to pull over (or face a head on). Utter cock!
Occasionally I have the pleasure of driving behind someone that I think is an advanced or excellent driver but this is few/far between. Most of the time, all I see is people hell bent on being first in the queue at all costs. I really don't know why but the UK has some sort of attitude problem where there are a large number of agressive, inconsiderate, unskilled drivers and it's not just chavs. I used to cross the M1 at junction 12 (Toddington) where they're upgrading the bridge and I even caught an exec in an E-Class reversing back up the slip because he'd taken the wrong exit
At bloody 5:00pm too when there were commuters everywhere FFS.
I know it's a bit of a cash cow but in some ways I think giving local plod power to fine s

I'd like some tips on spotting a good driver please. I can spot the bad ones really easily, but good road driving should be entirely undramatic. I'm in a bit of a conundrum regarding the OP though. I doubt I would pass the DSA car test without a struggle but I would pass the advanced driving test no problem so perhaps your criteria needs to be re-examinedGood drivers are easy to spot on motorways (as there are few of them) They are the ones who don't constantly brake in traffic, they leave a much bigger gap & absorb the ebb & flow of the traffic in front.
There should be a re-test system, as driving standards are appalling imho, if the Health & Safety bods got involved with every day drivers they'd be having a field day.

I'm sure I've asked this before. But what on earth will an advanced tester accept that a DSA one won't?Blindspot routines for another
Its the general style of driving that is different and the DSA examiners are generally unacceptable of it
