The driver of a Peugeot 807 was turning right into a lay-by and the driver of a silver mondeo (few cars back) tried to overtake several cars and struck the Pug forcing the car into the water.
Seems like reckless driving to me.

Funny that it should be a Mondeo. I've not noticed one on the roads for a long time. Years ago they used to be the worst driven cars on the road by blokes.
Anyway, this weekend I had three separate run ins with absolutely classic Mondeo Men from the old school sitting less than 3 feet off the bumper at speed on the motorway thinking it will make you go faster to absolutely lethal overtakes on B roads to being run into the opposing lane by one pulling into the side of me from a bus lane.

There are lots of questions as he seemed to hit the back of te car not the side and thus punted it off the road. Yes a tragic loss of life. With that it would imply that she pulled out of her lane without checking her mirrors and he was already on the over take.
The bloke probably doesn't stand a chance in court but I think we have all seen the sort of manoeuvre that the people carrier possibly did.

"I couldn’t undo my seatbelt. I thought "I can’t just stay like this". I just touched my seatbelt and it came undone. 'The Lord did come and help me to get out of the car.". I'm guessing the bit of the seatbelt she touched was the red button. Or god did it, like she says. Quite how anyone believes god helped them in a crash that killed their family is beyond me, seems more like proof he doesn't really care.

I'm undecided about this one. Of course she should have checked her mirror and would clearly have seen him - even Mondeo Man seems unlikely to double-pass on a blind corner, and if it was that sort of road it would surely be mentioned. But that doesn't excuse him from pulling out to try and get by several vehicles at once without checking whether any of them are indicating.In any case, though, I can't imagine the maximum twelve years for death by dangerous driving being appropriate. It's not like he was pissed up and driving along a pavement at 80mph, is it?
ETA - Anyone noticing that the family are clearly American and wondering what this means for the likelihood of her ever checking her mirrors?
I'm confused by some of the posts here, do you think she was at fault for not checking her mirrors?
The Mondeo man was at fault here entirely!
She was stopped on the carriageway and she was indicating right (MM admitted that at the scene)

What did he think they were stopped in a line for? Obviously the car at the front was wishing to turn left or right!

Why can't people just be more intelligent and polite on the roads? she was out for a 'leisurely drive' meaning she was dawdling about enjoying her time with the family, fair enough. He was trying to get to work and therefore couldn't be dawdling about, bit daft not leaving enough time to get to work but it happens.
So she see's him wanting to get past and she's in no rush to get anywhere, so why not just pull/move over or help him get past and everybodies happy? She's not getting harrassed and he's not getting frustrated to the point of making rash moves such as this.
Some would say he should be calmer as everybody has the right to use the roads at their own pace providing it's not dangerously slow or fast. But then why not say she should be more aware of people needing to get somewhere without being held up (unless for good reason of course but 'leisurely drive' doesn't count as one).
Bit of give and take on both sides will see no accidents. Much more effective than speed cameras or any of that b

I thought she was pulling off to the right as she was driving which would raise questions to be answered.

Source? I've yet to see anywhere say she was stopped.Turning it on it's head, she was doing 40mph, he was already approaching overtaking, and she stuck the indicator on while violently swerving into the layby. We've all seen those types of maneuvers, especially around tourist sites.
R300will is right. We were driving back with a trailer from Aberdeen and stopped three or four times to let cars past on the infamous A9 and we were doing 50mph (on GPS) rather than 40mph which a lot of people seem to now be doing.

I thought the same about the biker, would of been a very differently portrayed story I wonder what would have happened if it had been a bike and the biker had died.
