Hi everyone i dont post on here much, more of a lurker. A little background on me i have a car history of hot hatches for the last 5 or so years.

Anyway i have got a clio trophy at the minute but i want an exige but will require alot of saving. So my plan is to sell the clio and get a bit of a barge, merc/bmw wafting machaine for around £1500 and save like mad for my dream car. I dont know anything about barges though, i was looking all last night at different cars and i dont want to end up buying a money pit.

So a quick criteria

Not a hatch back
5 door would be nice to put my dog in the back
Leather interior if possible
£1500 ish
I dont want to be spending alot of money repairing it/ running it. But i dont do alot of miles

Any help appreciated

Do you own the Trophy? Cos the cheapest car is the one you already own. What happens if you sell the Trophy? You buy another car and bank the rest, for what? Keep the Clio, you'll only hate any stopgap you're forced to drive between it and an Exige. When you can afford the Exige, get rid of the Clio then. You know I'm right.

Yeah i own the trophy, spent alot of money on it latley as well. New exhaust, two tyres, track rod ends and the dampers are being re built now as well. So when i do sell it, it will be in very good condition, with the well known faults fixed/ replaced. So i agree with you, you probably are right. My old man said a very similar thing to me as well! Suppose i should keep it

I fancy a change as well, so momey isnt the only reason for the change. It would just help me get an exige quicker, in theory...

I blame pistonHeads, i have been on the bangernomics thread smile

I have had the clio nearly 3 years as well, longest i have kept a car.

Lexus/Saab is a good shout, i will have a look at them now thanks for the suggestions

It wouldn't help you get the Exige quicker, you'd just be swapping one depreciating asset for another. If you keep the Clio, the money is still in the car as opposed to slowly getting frittered away in the bank.

You'll regret getting rid of a Trophy for some crappy £1,500 repmobile.

Pappa you have got a point, it would be nice have a change of car though, not worry about where i have parked it incase someone bangs there doors into mine, be able just chuck the dog in the back ect. Say for arguments sake i get 5.5k for my clio, spend 1500 on a barge, 4k in the exige fund. Thats going be a help.

That alpha is realy nice, just dont think i would be brave enough to go for it though. Shame it looks brill
