Get a good dehumidifier if you want to prolong the life of the car, Mine takes about 10 to 15 litres out of the air a day and when you go in the garage you can feel the difference.

As a little bonus my infrequent use tools don't go rusty in the box anymore when they are left for months on end, I did not think I had a need for a dehumidifier until I took one in the garage to dry some car seats and a carpet I had just wet vaxed, when I came back the next morning the water box was full and I thought it was great so emptied it and put it back on, I have now had it running in there for 6 months or so and it is full every morning.

A great bit of kit for where I live (Cornwall, right by the coast) and I would not be without it now.

Total bo**ocks yes but great for sitting on the floor cleaning the car though (cue the ridicule squad) - even better on the wall to stop you opening the doors inadvertently onto the wall. The carpet was being skipped & it seemed a waste though it isn't 'fitted' wink

Like the idea of fully carpeted garage.

But . . .

not so good if you've just returned from 2-hour drive in snowy conditions. And have to do so for maybe everyday for a month. Do you drive your car in the rain???

Unless your garage is relatively airtight (unlike mine which always has a light breeze) wont you just be dehumidifying the environment?

I thought this too. Unless your garage is reasonably sealed, are you not just trying to dehumidify the planet?

No wonder the water box is always full.

hehe that would be my first thought!

I have carpet in my garage, but only on the walls to stop me loosing paint on my door edges!

If i had carpet on the floors it would be so full of bloody oil by now it would be a fire hazard hehe

OP, how would it extend the life of your car, i dont get it!

i also don't think it would make any difference, with all the other rubbish in garages it will cause more problems than solve any

The garage is quite air tight, a few small gaps round the top of the roller door but not howling wind. As I said, it seems to work for me, my tools and car are not rusty, the air feels drier. Its quite a large garage, three car if I cleared the benches out and other tools so I am not surprised at the amount of water I collect. It's better for the water to be constantly removed than constantly in the air in the garage.

And to get this back on track, Yes, I also have carpet, strips around 2 feet wide that run in front of the benches, it is better to stand on when the weather is cold.

The only place for carpet in a garage is on the walls - to avoid scraping the edge of your car doors when you get in and out. idea

Not only does my garage have wall-to-wall carpet - but it also has two layers of underfelt.
None of this helps my car though ... I turned my garage into a bar beer
