I wish to get a car I own back on its original plate and don't really want to retain the cherished plate it's on at present.
I see I can do it online if I wish to send dvla 125 sovs to stick it on retention, but if I don't want to retain it, can I just junk it and get an original aged plate issued. If so, how?

Does it say anything interesting?
Perhaps auction it here for a charity?

I am pretty sure you need to put it on retention.

You have to do it if you want an agre related plate on a NI car with a WLZ etc plate.

No. It just makes the car look 2 yrs older than it is. Was on the car when I bought it.

So if it goes on retention and I never reuse it, it goes back to dvla. So why can it not just go back to the now?

as said the only way would be to put the existing plate on retention (£105) or to transfer it to another vehicle (£80).
However, if you put it on a certificate you can then claim for a refund of the assignment fee of £80 if you agree not to assign it to a vehicle....therefore the overall cost would be just £25.

Just go to your local LVLO and tell them what you want to do.

It's not the easy. Not even sure if they are still open and not that local.

Mr Reg, thanks the makes sense. I can definitely get the 80 quid back, yes?

Box 5 of the certificate.
Can only be done when it's run out so after the 12mths, but it's £80 back that you wouldn't have had previously!
