APologies if this has been asked before but I am traveling to the Olympic park tomorrow and my early plan was to park at epping tube in the morning and ride the few stops to stratford. However further reading suggests this car park is full by 7am by commuters etc . Has anyone any ideas on a better parking and tube route to stratford station ?.

Wanstead has parking, but also fills up relatively early (been a while since I was last there, but later than 7am IIRC).

Other than that there are trains from places like Harlow Town (just off M11) and that car park should have spaces all day - more expensive though as you'll need to buy tickets from Harlow to Enfield Lock (which is where your travelcard then takes over).

Epping would be my choice, but failing that go past Epping tube, down the hill and park in Charles Street which is a 5 minute walk up the hill to the tube. Just park anywhere past the first 20m of the road which doesn't have yellow lines and you'll be fine. smile

Hi. We parked at Epping on the first Friday of the games. Arrived around lunchtime to find the carpark coned off. So did the drive round the nearby streets to find somewhere as someone else in this thread has said. No chance! Went back to the carpark and the attendent let us in. They cone it off to stop people dumping cars anywhere. So even if it looks full it's worth asking. Have fun!

Newbury park does have a fair size car park. Regarding local street parking, residential streets near most of the stations have a no parking hour around lunchtime to stop commuters parking all day.

Newbury park is very good, get there before 10:00 though to get in the main car park, the overflow at the other side of the station is normally very quiet. Parking is £4.50 for the day and there's a card machine in each car park. There's also a couple of attendants who look after the site and have a look out for the lovely C63 AMG in the overflow!

Great thats for the newbury park info. Our ticket lets us in the park about 10 so I was planning to get to a car park/tube pretty early around 7/7.30 anyway. May splash out and have brekkie at Morrisons over the road from stratford station!.

The streets surrounding Epping are no parking only from 10am-11am to stop commuters parking there all day. Of course, this means that after 11am then you're good for the rest of the day and for free. Get there close to 11am to secure a sport and park up Kendal Avenue which is the road opposite the road that goes down to the car park. I did this twice and saved a small fortune. Which of course the wife then spent on Olympic tat.

Anyone trying this tactic at Epping shouldn't be tempted to park up at ten to 11 and get on the train. I have watched a parking attendant arrive in the street at 5 to 11 and book all the cars whose owners have thought that nipping off ten minutes early won't make any difference.

Hence my recomendation of Charles Street, near the station but away from parking attendants.

Leave early and park just on the bend as the road leads round to the left half way down.

I know this road very well after living there some time

Park in Wanstead - Seagry road/Tennyson Avenue always has parking and its only a two minute walk up to the station (Central line).

If, in the most bizarre of circumstances there isn't parking, I'll let you park on my driveway for the day. (Seagry Road). CCTV just to make you feel safe too.

Just drop me a PM.

Sorry. Let me rephrase that.

If you do decide to park in Wanstead, just PM me by tonight and I'll park one of my cars on the road so you can park your car on the drive.

Forget fiddling about with on street parking. Its no skin of my nose parking on't road for a day. I'll be asleep most of the morning anyway. Just park up, go. Come back, drive off. No formalities necessary.

Thanks all for info. Day panned out perfectly especially the travel organisation. Stayed in Hemel premier inn (quite nice really, beds better than our own!).

7am left premier inn
8am parked at newbury park for 4.50 all day and on to tube (bargain)
8.45 Stratford morrisons for breakfast (empty , even though there were thousands of people just round the corner)
9.30 Walked back to Olympic park and through security.
4.00pm Walked to the alleged "fastest way to central london" as touted by the organisers. Which is about 30 min walk to West Ham.
5.00pm into London , quick visit to M and M world (shocking array of chinese Tat , not even good quality at shocking prices . I'm pretty stingy but even the Mrs was Shocked )
6.00pm travel back to newbury park , car all ok . No dramas.
7.00 pm Start drive home
10.45 Get home

Quite a day . Even the little one didn't wake up until 9.45am this morning !!.

(Thanks for the driveway option but as you can see plans worked perfect.)
