Evening all....I wonder of I can ask your advice?

I have an Audi a3 2.0 diesel 170bhp in need of some new front tyres. These will be the first ones I've got for it as I bought it second hand and before that had company cars which were always renewed as per the lease agreement.

I like cornering and progressive driving and wonder if you recommend tyre type based on your experience.....would a cheap make be ok or should I go top range and if top range what brand and price. I am inclined towards Michelin but just because my dad says to!

I have no idea but I drive 12000 a year mostly to work through county roads on a national speed limit.

Thanks for your help

W.

In all seriousness, don't buy cheap, crap tyres - they're the only thing on your car that contacts the road! Any of the well-known big brands like Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental etc. will be fine, but there are some slightly cheaper ones that should be decent enough. I had some Falken tyres in the past that I really rated, for instance.

Hankook tyres are pretty good ... not sure what specific model for your car because the wheel sizes vary so much.

I've got a pair of Marangonis that have been very good value - £84 a corner for 205/50/17s on a Mégane, good wear, decent grip in the dry and wet, nothing special but certainly not ditchfinders.

I'm about to get some Michelin Pilot Sport 3s on my Golf, Love the Pilot Sport 2s on my Porsches so hoping they can live up to expectation.

I have Zetekx? or something on at the moment which are absolutely dire and scary(not my choice, on when I bought it not long ago).

What size?

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 is the default answer, assuming it's 225/40 R18.
