Hello guys and girls,

This is my first post on Pistonheads, so here goes!

I'm 21 and I'm going to need to buy a car over the next couple of weeks due to starting a new job.

Preferably, I'd like a car up to 2 years old (so I've got some warranty left) and no more than £10k. I've been looking mostly at the Fiesta Zetec S, Swift Sport and Renaultsport Twingo as these seem to offer the best performance/aesthetics/economy/insurability. If anyone has owned any of these cars I'd really appreciate any advice about any of the cars, or if you can think of a car I've not thought of any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers everyone.

Just need to slip the standard response in first mate.

Buy an e46 330i for 1999 and spend the rest on insurance, hookers, petrol and guns. You'l have plently left over for paying any bills, rather than rely on a warranty.

On a serious note, is it just a peace of mind thing?

Out of the list, I really like the Swift Sport, but moreso the mk1.

If I was in your position though I'd go for something like a 106 Rallye in Bianca White or a 306 GTI-6 and save thousands.

I take it your looking to borrow the money for the car?
Is it wise to spend so much of your wages from a new job to buy a newer car when a older one can be just as reliable. My advice would be to go look at older cars and spend less than 50% of your 10k budget and save the saving you make in repayments.
you can pick up a swift sport for under £5000,same as a fiesta zetec S, a 08 one can be had for under £5000 with fsh and all the options.

Im 21 and got a Fiesta ST - can't fault it for what I wanted which sounds pretty similar to you, might struggle to get one as new as you want but good car - great car with some simple mods.

At £10k I'd look at a Renault Clio 200, that's what I'm looking at for my 21st.

Get a 5k swift sport and keep the rest for the repairs that won't arise for it.

Agree, they're fantastic cars. The Swift Sport was probably my favourite car I've owned, although they say the Twingo RS 133 is as good as it.

What about a mk1 Yaris T Sport?

Save your £10k, buy a 1.7 Puma, run it for a couple of years - then use the £10k to buy something interesting that you will be able to insure smile

Out of interest, why is that this is an issue?
