Peugeot 106 GTI Suspected gearbox grinding sound
Discussion
Hi i have a 51 black gti, on 93000. Before i boot it in 2nd gear its makes a grinding sound probably coming from the gearbox and does it from easing off the gas from high speed in 5th, thing is i can feel a grinding vibration from the handbrake. Could it be the gearbox or the handbrake? im guessing gearbox cos the handbrake works fine
Another thing my gti has a tacky single wiper conversion, will a normal 2 wiper scuttle panel off a 1.1 106 from a scrappy be the same as on a gti? im guessing it will.
Cheers

Yes, they are the same. Remember and sell your single wiper conversion on 106owners.co.uk or ebay and make your money back.Cheers

constant grinding noise? mounts tend to be clunking noises.if it were me, I'd check you don't have a stuck calliper, ie jack the back up without the handbrake on (in gear obviously) and check the wheel rotation is not restricted. then try the other side. I don't know how a gearbox mount would make the handbrake vibrate unless the whole car was vibrating (when my 106 had a mount go it clunked and the dash/steering wheel shook.
I'd check the mounts as well as doogz stated.

So has to be the gearbox then, cheers doogz.
No, it doesn't. Didn't you just decide it sounded like the gearbox mount? Open the bonnet, grab the engine, at the top, at the rocker cover, and give it a right good shake. if you can move the engine about, you need to look at your engine/'box mounts. The offside one under the ECU is the most common, but the aft one slightly towards the nearside at the back of the gearbox goes sometimes too.
Let us know what happens when you do that.
You grumpy git
