My mother's oldest Friend has suffered a stroke, she can no longer drive, she has phoned my mother and offered her her Picanto, my mother has a diesel fiesta at the moment she shares with her husband, she's been looking at a newly new fiesta for herself.
The picanto is an auto, an 09 reg, done around 10k miles, the deal is my mother finishes off the payments and the cars hers, this will cost her around 3 grand, is the picanto as dire as it sounds, would you advise your pensioner mum to take the KIA, or say no do 7 grand on a fiesta, which I suspect she will be happier with.
Thoughts please.

PS, no pictures, this is my mum.

Ask this forum's Toaster Pilot. He has one. I do believe he likes it.

I had one as a courtesy car

it was like a flintstones car, road noise was so bad it felt like their was no floor

and the plastic was like a sweet tray material

I was coming from an Audi A2 so possibly just used to high build quality

for an A to B car it's ok

but nothing special, it's like a fridge or washing machine

it does the job but it's just another white good

I bought one for a laugh a few months ago. £1k for a 2006 1.1 LX. I thought it would be a load of crap but I've actually have grown to like it quite a bit. It's a functional car and does exactly what it's supposed to without a fuss. For dynamic fun and thrills look elsewhere, but this is a car for your mother. smile

The auto will make it especially easy to drive. For what they are, there's not much to complain about. They're reliable and pretty tough.

Fiesta everytime. The HP paperwork faff and inevtiable financial loss of a nearly new Kia Picanto don't bear thinking about.
Financially you'll lose a lot more on a £7k Fiesta than a £3k Picanto...

Girlfriend has an '09, bought for her by her dad for £7k new.

Personally I hate it. But this is your mum, all of the things I look for in a car are highly unlikely to be shared within the criteria your mum has...

Worst part I find is the internal door handles, always feel like they're going to snap off in your hand - it all feels very delicate and cheap (but then it is cheap...)

Doesn't feel overly safe either, although I'm no NCAP expert. The aforementioned road noise (or road roar to be more accurate) gives you a feeling that the structure doesn't have much density, it feels very caravan like.

The 3 grand price tag for a reliable 3 year old car makes up for a lot in my eyes, thanks for all the replies so far, would she get the balance of the 7 year warranty with it.

I don't think the 7 year warranty started on Picantos until 2010. I'd double check that.
