Hi all
I have a Q7 on 80k at the moment. Its new to me so my first service for this car. Audi have quoted me £385 - another garage £345 for the service. Its going to need some work (if i get it done) (rear wiper washer/ bulb/grinding noise on the front/ window power button)

Any opinions on Servicing from main dealers? - better to go to a local garage? (i just have this sneaky feeling its going to be near £1k)

Cant you change the wiper and bulb yourself and save a few quid?

Q7's are pretty expensive to maintain, find yourself a good independent because a main dealer stamp on an 80k car is not going to be a factor at resale time. £345 sounds pretty good to me, I don't think I've ever got away so lightly. But as others have said, do the simple things yourself.

And watch the pressures on your front tyres - Q7 eats the outer edges of the fronts and a few psi down can accelerate that rapidly.

I echo this. £345 is a good value for a normal service. Mine is slightly less but it varies from dealership to dealership.

As for tyres also check the alignments (very important!). Try to go to a decent place with 4 wheel laser alignment to get this done. I do this everytime I change the tyres or at least once a year. I've found the tyres to last a lot longer when I follow this regime. Alignment will only costs circa £50 so it is well worth the money.

Easy. Service only at the dealers then get the Indy to do the repair work. You then get the 'stamp' but not bent over paying for the dealer to do the repairs.

Agreed, alignment is critical on these things. I follow the same pattern - £50 on a £1000 investment in 4 new boots is nothing if you double their working life.

I shop around the Audi dealers for the A6 and often find a 50% spread in prices. I can usually find a main dealer at the same or similar price to a well regarded indie

Get an Audi dealer to do proper 4 wheel alignment. I took mine to an alignment specialist, it was much better after Audi did it!

Not unless you want all four wheels pointing in different directions!

Try a company like this who know what they are doing - the difference will be noticeable:

What kind of work gets carried out on a £385 service at Audi? Is it just a glorified oil and filter change?

I've got an S6 and have just had it serviced at a trusted independent near Manchester. It's had 11 litres of Longlife oil, new oil filter, air filters, fuel filter, pollen filter, brake fluid and has had ten new plugs fitted (which I've supplied myself. Now this cost me a tad under £450 which I think is pretty reasonable.

i agree with the glorified oil change comment. its a good oil change whilst they walk around having a look at it.

I was probably in the same boat as you as I only bought my S6 in November and this is the first service it's had under my ownership and as a precaution I got everything changed plus a full inspection for the price mentioned above. When I first got the car, I had an interim oil and filter change done at the same indie for around £130.

My car is 5 years old and approaching 100,000 miles so a main dealer stamp in my service book is worth nothing any more.
