Winding Brake Calipers

04 Vauxhall Combo Van, changing rear disks and pads, how do you go about winding back the rear calipers, don't look like they rotate as normal without pulling on the piston cover.


edit: Do I need to remove handbrake cable first?

You need a calliper wind back tool you can get them from most auto factors. You don't need to remove th handbrake cable.

I have one, works fine on the Honda, and it fits the Combo Van. There is a plastic/rubber sleave over the cover, and this looks like its going to rip when I use the wind back tool.

Peal back the cover and spray a lubricant like wd40 around the inside of the boot stops it sticking to the piston when your winding it in.

a Little nervous still when things don't go exactly as planned when working on the car/van. My kind mechanic neighbour is checking them over before I drive it, but bit late to knock on the door for a stupid question.

No problem if it does start to stick again stop peal the boot back away and spray with wd40 but the first time normaly does the trick.

so cocked up - when going to get the wind back tool, pulled the hand brake on the car and pushed the brake - can't get the other caliper off - opening up the brake cylinder to release the pressure fix this one?

Shouldn't be hydraulics holding it, it'll be the mechanical arangement. Probably just need to wind it back more.
