As a girl driver I wondered whether or not other girls have had the same problem as me? :
I have a fault on my car and explore possible solutions to it on the internet, I call a garage to book in a fault diagnostic test, only to be the spoken as if were an idiot and "yes, I would prefer to speak to your husband".- yes he really did say that!
I found a far better garage later that day, details of the garage can be sent to those wishing to avoid it.

Shame he was a nugget as it turns out the work that needs doing to it will cost a bit- he has lost out on not only my business but anyone who asks me where to take their car for diagnostics- believe me when I say I have a big mouth and a facebook account ! smile

If it helps: I'm a man. I'm an engineer, both kinds - tool weilding grease monkey and a degree in engineering.

Today a garage didn't fix a wheel bearing I'd asked them to fix because "it isn't bad enough yet".

Garages aren't discriminatory - they know better than everyone.

Speaking from experience - a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Too many customers come to see us, and they know it all.

Perhaps OP, you inadvertently said something completely daft - like "I fink it might be the enjin" - to which I would also enquire whether there was anyone else I could speak with.

girl driver- Dealers, franchised garages and lots of independents treat everyone like idiots. The only garage that sees my car is the local friendly MOT place.

On Pistonheads laugh

In all seriousness, my initial reaction was that we haven't got the full story- so while I'd like to join you in branding your mechanic a bigotted chauvinist, I can't really. As others have pointed out, you might've said things to him which made him think he'd be better off talkign to someone else. Your gender might not have even come into it.

Best of luck with it.
