I think I know the answer but nonetheless,I could put up with the derision as there are some cracking lease deals on the new Merc SLK. How much would you need to save to be the object of scorn among your peers?

Asking questions like this, I'd say it's your perfect car mate! Maybe consider getting some pink underpants to wear when you drive it?

OK the detail is that a Brand new Merc SLK is £296 per month. £1500 down, 2 year lease, 10,000 miles per annum 9p per mile excess. The Mercs are 250 diesel bluefficiency AMG sport so I think will look pretty neat and a great price too. But I do care how i'm perceived, it's a trait I have!

How "powerfully built" are you?

You might look a bit of a tool in an SLK if you're big/tall.

Deal sounds good though.

So you are looking at buying a diesel hairdresser's convertible? If you care what people think of you, you won't want them basing their opinion of you upon that particular car.

(i) Christ they are coming up with some stupid names for Eco-mobiles these days!

(ii) Putting "AMG Sport" after the Eco-mobile moniker seems a tad bizarre.

I wouldn't give a monkey's what other people think. There were 24 month deals around last month on these at £233 incl vat, on a 6 + 24 month basis. 0-60 in 6.7, 151mph top speed, 56mpg combined (claimed), seems a cracking deal for a £36k car.

Only if you buy one with that horrible dagadaga 4 cyl diesel in it. If it must have a tractor engine in a roadster they could've at least put the reasonably refined 350CDi engine in.

If you think it's a good deal go for it.

In that case I think you're a tit for making car choices based on what anyone but you think, unless someone else is paying why would it matter?
