Evenng PH.

It's my least favourite time of year were my insurance is due.

I've put my details into confused and the likes, and getting quotes for around £700 (1997 528i at 23 with one mon fault claim).

Does anyone have any recommendations of any companies that would be worth getting a quote for? I know what is good for one person could be crap for someone else etc.

I can remember years ago in the back of Fast Car there would be adverts for insurance companies dealing with young drivers with points etc. (not that I have any).

Thanks.

Try the ones that are not on comparison sites such as Aviva, Direct Line, NFU Mutual etc. Also try playing around with on street parking / garage at night, your job title, putting an older relative as a second driver. All these things can help to bring it down.

Thanks.

I've tried Aviva and Direct Line (both over £1,000). I'll give NFU a ring tomorrow.

I've tried putting parents as named drivers, swapping between driveway/roadside (doesn't make any difference).

I had my renewal notice drop through the door today. I think it might actually be lower than last year, although I haven't had a chance to check yet.

Got a quote...£1,802.71!

And £550 excess.

£700 isn't all that bad really - it's apparently below the national average for motor insurance, and you're young and insuring a relatively big car.

This. I'm 24, have a non-fault claim and have a 2008 1.8 Citroen Grand Picasso which cost me £1000 with a £200 excess with Tesco last year. Renewals due in November, so it will be interesting to see if it goes up or down.

I live in Leeds and the area I live in is classed as one of the highest risks. Even though it's actually quite a nice area (Cookridge) and nothing ever seems to happen. I think it's because it's classed as LS16, which is the same as the near-by student areas where burglary is rife.

Try finding a local high street broker mate, yellow pages or yell.com should help you. Let them do the leg work for you, a good one should come up with something cheaper!
