Hi All,

After having driven many modern cars over the last 5 years, I finally got my mk2 GTI 8v out of retirement.

She has been SORN (parked in my dry garage) for nearly 5 years.

I got my hands dirty, again for the first time in 5 years and gave her a full service, valet and new tyres.

Took her in for an MOT and all she needed were front discs.

I cannot tell you how amazing it feels to drive a 23 year old car..... "go-kart".

It feels raw, connected and pretty swift (130bhp ish).

My two boys aged 10 & 6 love it and think it is a race car, my wife hates it (prefers her modern Mercedes) and I feel like a kid again.

In the last couple of days I have seen a couple of other mk2's and both of them have given me a wave !! so thanks!!

This is what real driving feels like.

I just had to share.....damn! I might just go for a late night cross country hoon!

Bye for now

It has scrubbed up rather well for being laid up for 5 years

Lovely looking car, although I can't say I'm a fan of the wheels it's sporting.

Wouldn't describe it as a "go-kart" but its handling has more feeling than most modern cars and all other GTI Golfs that came after it,id still have another big-bumpered one.

looks nice btw.

So you took the advice from CAR magazine from several years ago? that was to buy a MK2 Golf GTI now store it in your garage then use it when all the modern the cars have become overweight rubbish.

I've had the car 12 years and used it as a daily driver for 2 years. Then as a weekend toy for a further 5 year!

It will now be my daily driver, having said that, it will probably do 4k pa......yeap, 23 years old and 113k on the clock! I feel proud of her!

I need to get the roof lining done next week, it has started to sag!!

its a nice example, This would be the newest version of golf I would entertain in my garage

It was registered in October 1990, so it's not even 22 yet!

Great wee cars I've had several. Always regret selling them and want another. Won one on eBay at the start of the year but it was a falsely advertised dog so walked away. Wouldn't min another one some day though!

Lovely colour, don't see many like that.

Still miss my Mk2 even though I sold it (too cheaply) 5 years ago!
