Advice required, please.

We have an 11-plate Polo on finance and, following a particularly over-indulgent summer, I decided to cycle to work from my wife's work every day to try and shift some of the beer and bbq that had lodged itself in me.
On the first day I attached a bike carrier and bike to the car and as there was some dew on the windscreen I hit the wipers, as I did this I engaged reverse and completely forgot that the rear wiper activates automatically when this combination is selected.
As we'd never had a new car before, let alone one that wipes the rear window automatically, and despite having seen it happen a couple of times previously, it just didn't cross my mind. I have checked in the handbook and there is no specific warning against this and it even says that if the front wipers are impeded in anyway they stop and return to their resting position. The rear wiper obviously encountered the bike rack and is now stuck at a rather ungainly 45 degrees and won't work. I tried to check the fuse in case it was that and after some excessive googling I found that the rear washer (that still works)is on the same circuit so it can't be that. It's also not possible to disable the function.
I'm sure I'm not the first and I certainly won't be the last to want to use a bike rack on their car.
I have sent an email to the dealer we bought it from but, despite an acknowledgement of the email, I have yet to hear from them. Pre-empting a problem, where do you lovely PH-ers think I stand with this?

My point is that as there's no warnings about it can I reasonably expect VW to fix it for free? I know I have to take some blame but it was a genuine mistake and not malicious or intentional in any way.StuKP said:

Have you tried telephoning them and asking them how you can fix the car? Usually actually speaking to people is more useful.Plus they might have struggled to see what it has to do with them, whereas if you phone and ask for help they might be more sympathetic.

You forgot that the rear wiper comes on when you engage reverse with the fronts on. You have to take all the blame, because it is completely your own fault.This "it's not my fault, who can I blame" s

This has to be a windup, OP, are you pulling our collective chains here?I'm quite sure the manual doesn't specifically state that crashing your car into a lamp-post will damage, it, does that mean that if I did just that I could ask the dealer to mend it F.O.C.?
