how to register a car trailer
Discussion
Please be gentle as this is more or less my first serious post / question and bare with me for a moment.I seem to have got myself into some trouble.
Yesterday I found a cheap light car trailer on ebay which I promptly agreed on buying ,as I want something like that to tow my 7 behind my camper.
As I live in Belgium ,said trailer will need to be registered ,taxed and MOT'ed (belgian equivalent oof course). So I called the MOT station and they told me I would need the registration of the vehicle in the UK.
I called the seller and he told me he brought the trailer over from Ireland with an old Austin on it.
The trailer is not registered in the UK and the seller doesn't have any papers for it.He is willing to give me a statement he sold me the trailer though.
How do you go about registering a trailer in the UK ?
Would I be able to apply for some kind of export registration for it ?

no ,not a "special" friend ,just a very good car nut kind of friend
He thinks I'm mad for buying a trailer in the UK without any paper work.
He should know as he bought an Australian Land Cruiser without a europaen certificate of conformity and it took him 2 years to get it on the road in Belgium

There is a company called "the equipment register" 01225 464599 you can register the trailor with the chassis number but I sold my trailor to a guy from Belgium and he said they are tight with manufacture dates which is why he had to buy mine instead of the 2 others on eBay.
Be careful though because if you try to register it and it comes back stolen the police will take and you can't give it back and get your money back as its handling stolen goods and they wont tell you until they have enough details to contact you so do the check first.
When I bought my trailor I registered it and it came back as stolen, I then was able to contact the owner to negotiate to buy the trailor off him as well as it was better than having nothing.
