advice on rotating tyres

hey everyone

car is bmw 320d so rear wheel drive

the fronts have about 5-6mm and the rears have 3mm, is it always best to have the best tyres at the rear especially on rear wheel drive?

The consensus is that the best tyres should be on the rear no matter what wheels are driving. For most people it's easier to manage understeer than oversteer.

With 3mm on them I would be buying new ones and not rotating them

Yes, under steer is easier to correct than over steer IMO.

Yes, you should always have the best tyres on the back, but that doesn't necessarily mean the ones with the deepest tread. If they are all the same by all means swap them, but if you've got something sticky on the back and linglong teflon specials on the front, don't!

With it being a BMW depends how fronts are wearing on shoulder. But it's recommended by all the big manufactures that new tyres be fitted on rear so best tyres on rear is always safest.but as said above at 3mm get se laughs out of remaining tread on back in best rear wheel drive ph fasion of course :-)

fronts with tread are budgets by event tyres and rears are michelins so better to leave them as they are?

Definitely, you don't want grippy Michelins on the front and ditchfinders on the back unless you're a big fan of surprise oversteer!

yep gonna leave them, then replace all 4 when the rears down to 2mm. the budgets came with the car (7mm) when i bought it, but they should have about 4-5mm when i change them and looking on ebay they go for about £20-£30 each so al stick them on there later
