Shed collection trip - driving through London tomorrow?

Hello,
In the true spirit of piston heads i am heading on a 500mile round trip to collect an unseen, bargain basement, 150k, 15 year old shed tomorrow. I live in East Yorkshire, the car in question is an unseen Volvo bought from Ebay located in Bromley.
Actually, the car is for my friend, but as he's going on holiday tomorrow, and i enjoy a road trip, ive offered to collect it for him for the price of my train down and petrol.
My main question is - i want to come back to Yorkshire on the A1, which according to google would put me going through London via the Blackwell tunnel. I quite like the idea of coming through the smoke, but will it be too busy at midday tomorrow? Also, is Blackwell tunnel the best way? I want to see some sights of London if ive gone to the effort of driving through it!

Through the Blackwall tunnel you will see the 02/the dome and the Olympic stadium.
Going through the middle of London you can easily do Tower Bridge, Parliment, Whitehall, Trafalger Sq, Buck Palace, Park Lane, Marble Arch and up Edgeware Road.

Blackwall tunnel won't let you see many (if any!) sights, you need to be further west for that.
It will be busy - it's always busy!
Check out the congestion charge. I think you can pay any time up to midnight and if you don't they send you a fine.
Remember the Paralympics are still on so there may be lane/road closures.
You could get the train to Kings X, tube/bus/cab to somewhere near Buckingham Palace and walk eastwards from there and walk/tube/bu/cab to London Bridge to get the train to Bromley then drive home via Blackwall tunnel or M25/Dartford.

I drove to the city whilst Olympics was on ,on a Saturday and traffic was fine.
But in an unknown car and you presumably don't know your way around i would
go from Bromley straight to the M25 and head north.
Blackwall tunnel is very unpredictable.one little incident closes it and queues soon
build up.

I would check traffic on google maps - if it's OK, up the A20, Blackwall Tunnel, A12, M11 and on, if not, down the A20 the other way to the M25. Dartford Crossing has a toll though, and you will need to check the traffic there too.
To be honest I wouldn't bother going through town. Seeing the sights sounds nice but you will be busy sitting in nose to tail jams, avoiding bus lanes, and negotiating gyratories and odd junctions

Picky!A2 on the South side of the tunnell. A102 as you go through. A12 once you go under the river.
It's all one road.
Let's confuse him with the wrong road numbers.
The A2 turns left at Blackheath and continues into town through such delights as Deptford
and New Cross
