selling a private plate

Basically looking at a 323, which has a private plate attached, how is the best method to sell a private plate? are there companies which can buy the plate off you - how does it work?. I realise the plate wouldn't have a massively significant value, but a value non the less (reg is S24 AMF)

Surely that isn't really a private plate. It's just a plate from a 1998 registered vehicle.

You'd be hard pushed to get any decent money for it IMHO.

Sorry, having re read your query, I think most companies that advertise private plates apart from the DVLA do so on a sale or return basis. You go to them, they give you a guide price and will advertise on your behalf.

Yeh, i put the reg in one of their systems, and it said it was worth £550...which i was surprised at. The car is only up for £750 anyway. So i take it the people who want such a plate have to buy direct from the seller....so it could take forever to sell.

Are these companies the best method of selling a plate then?

A plate is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

I don't even think that plate was purchased from the DVLA originally as it's above 20 and a non special number.

If you spent £105 putting on retention then I highly suspect it wouldn't even crack £75 on ebay.

S1 to 99 were sold via DVLA

There was an M5 plate on my car when I bought it. I looked up the price they were selling for and it wasn't worth the cost of transferring it off my car £105.

V24 and Y24 AMF are both available tonight on the DVLA site at £399 and I suspect will be there for a while yet.
