Brighton speed trials accident

I've had a look in the Motorsport, Events & regional forums and cannot find a thread about the accident at the Brighton Speed Trials today.
I was pretty unlucky to witness the couple on a classic sidecar set-up veer off Madeira Drive shortly after the chequered flag, drag along the chain link fence and sadly I believe impact with a concrete cone by the beach railway line.
Both rider and passenger looked in a very bad way, no movement from either and the helicopter was called.
Does anyone have any further information as I'd feel a little better to know that they're in a hospital bed upset about the damage to their classic bike rather than what appeared to be the case at the scene.

I was there all day and was not aware of another accident - might have missed it, you can't stand all day without leaving for a while though.
Dreadful news about this pair though. Serious accidents are rare at this event, and it has a century of history behind it.

The event has been altered a lot over the years - it was run over a kilometre with two vehicles at once for many years. Latterly the H&S people have put a stop to the noisier and more powerful machines. It is a pale shadow of its prime. None of the people who have been involved in accidents at this wonderful event would change the rules nor try to ban it I am sure. You cannot sanitise motorsport without destroying it. they all go into it in full knowledge of the dangers. motco said:

I think you'll find that the 'other' incident mentioned was actually a 60 year old man being stabbed in the early hours of the morning and this incident delayed the start of the BST a little while investigations etc. took place. RIP to the deceased competitor and condolonces to their family and friends and wishing the injured person a speedy recovery. Thoughts are with you and to all affected by this tragic incident.
