Am I one of the few people who stops when the lights turn amber?

Stopped at a set of lights yesterday and watched as 3 cars in L1 carried on through, the last one after the lights had turned red.

Planks.

Well you and me. Unless I am too close to stop safely.

In my area, I think the highway code is different to the one I learnt, the local code suggests that you can go through red lights as long as they've only been red for 1-3 seconds....

Seen 2 near misses recently at a cross roads where a car comes through 2-3secs after red just as someone from the left/right jumps the green...

Amber to me means be prepared to stop. I'm not prepared to stop.

I hate that split second choice you have...try and stop or continue to go.

There are far to many traffic lights infesting our roads and although I do not go through on red I often have when amber shows and I cannot stop safely and I reckon most drivers are sick of spending time wating with no aother cars about just because the lights stop them.
Pet hate for me is a roundabout and lights combined.

Kinda this. It's the 'little boy who cried wolf' psychology a bit I think - put pointless lights bloody everywhere, and they start to lose their gravitas and authority.

Which is why, when I'm at an ATS controlled junction, despite the lights going green in my favour - I still carefully check both ways for nutters flying through reds - as I would at a normal junction without lights.

This caution has saved the front of my car being torn off many a time! Sigh! rolleyes

I just go through amber lights, I can't be chewed doing fking emergency stops when 90% of the time the other junctions are clear. Every fking night I get stopped at the same junction during the small hours (working night shift) when there's not another soul in sight.

if you need to do an emergency stop because they turned amber - you shouldn't, if you need to do an emergency stop because they turned red - you are doing it wrong

How many of us have stopped at lights only for no traffic to pass through,sitting...waiting.... then they go through the phase back to green. Makes my bloody blood boil. Usually also at around the early hours of the morning of course, when there's less traffic.

Call me Mr Conspiracy, the increased amount of lights I'm sure is just a ploy to make us use more petrol, hence more money for the Govt, I've had enough, I'm going to call David Icke.

I was always aware that lights and speed limits didn't apply until 6am - might be wrong.

Not something I've ever found challenging TBH. Surely when approaching the lights you just control your speed such that if the light turns amber you are able to stop, obviously using some judgement and anticipation of when they're likely to change, I'm not suggesting crawling through every set of lights at 10mph.

People who run red lights are generally arrogant fktards of the highest order.

'zackly. If you're approaching a set of lights you should be expecting to have to stop, even if they're green.

In the movie Starman (1984) Jeff Bridges, as a freshly landed alien, adopts human form and takes the wheel of a car after riding as passenger for a while. Almost immediately they have a near miss at traffic lights,

Starman: Okay?

Jenny Hayden: Okay? Are you crazy? You almost got us killed! You said you watched me drive, you said you knew the rules!

Starman: I do know the rules.

Jenny Hayden: Oh, for your information pal, that was a yellow light back there!

Starman: I watched you very carefully. Red light stop, green light go, yellow light go very fast!

as a rule i stop for them, but i have noticed a big difference in timing in london (well surrey but i call everything inside the m25 london)

in london when a light goes red theres a good 3 or 4 seconds between the next phase beginning to change, almost assuming people will run the lights

in norwich, where i learnt to drive and the family live, as soon as light a goes red light b goes red and amber. no pause between them atall

in norwich everyone stops for amber, in london, not so much,
