I think I'm the first to post this...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-1...

"An Oxfordshire MP says he is lucky to be unhurt after losing control of his car and crashing into four cars.

Banbury MP, Sir Tony Baldry, tried to park his black Mercedes in the town centre on Friday afternoon when it began to creep forward.

As he tried to stop it, the car hit the parked cars, a bollard and demolished a portable loo."

WTF?!?!

Old duffer hits accelerator instead of the brake...

Although with all this modern electronic crap anything is possible.

Throttle is electric and hydraulic brake pedal can be overridden by electronics.

Very unlikely though.

Fairly standard type of crash it seems. Loads of people seem to aim for the brake but mash the gas instead, then when things go bad they mash it harder.

He said "I tried to stop it. My right foot was outside the car as the car was accelerating. I was seeking to avoid hitting anything. No one was injured. Those whose cars were hit were extremely understanding"

So I guess he managed to drive for 200 yards with his left foot clamped on the accelerator, thinking he was pushing the brake?

What the hell does that mean?

Why did he have his foot out of the car?

(Apparently) he opened his door to pick up a dropped parking ticket.

But nowhere does it say he's apologised to the owners of the cars he hit.. it's obviously a defect and the car's fault, not his.

Lucky he didn't take his leg off then, I'd say!

What an idiot.

Very unlikely with the gearbox in park.

Which we have to assume is where he didn't put it before opening the door and then trying a Flintstone's emergency stop.

So he put it in drive... dropped the ticket, he opened the door to pick up the ticket and the car started to roll forward (as an auto would) and instead of pressing the brake he pressed the throttle with his left foot.. and it steamed forward and caused all that carnage.

Fool.
