Fog lights as daylights

You know what really grinds my gears....

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this, I've seen countless cars going about now with their front fog lights on as if they're day lights, isnt it illegal?

I think I'm right in saying though that the new VW daylight positioning is next to the fogs, although I'm talking about 7-8 year old fords and the like

I've noticed a lot of tossers doing this. Yes the fogs on a lot of cars look good lit up, but that's no excuse to use them when the conditions don't require it, i.e when it's not bloody foggy! I don't get why new cars need extra lights, why not just wire the sidelights to be on permanently?

Its foglights or a light in a foglight type position? IIRC daytime running lights have a different lens marking.

I don't mind people running foglights during the day. It looks stupid but it doesn't affect me.

Running foglights on a clear night is just ridiculous though. I'm very well inclined to switch both fogs and main beam on when I see one coming the other way.

I hold my head in shame, when I was a bit (alot) younger, I was, as far as I was concerned, the best driver in the country so I could drive with my front fogs on in my 1.1 Renault 5. Until I got pulled one night and given a horrendous rollicking from what I now realise was a fairly decent Traffic Copper. That was more than 20 years ago, however.

Truthfully, when it's really foggy (we get a bit more on the coast than inland) although I switch them on (and remember to turn them off as well) I don't really notice much, if any, difference on fronts, but that might just be me.

I do get bloody annoyed when people leave them on, especially driving with sidelights and front fogs on for no reason other than to look a doofus.

Front fogs don't bother me too much, but when you're driving behind someone and they leave their rear fogs on when there's just a little bit of mist...

They're easy to spot - fog lights come on with sidelights, DRLs don't

Far too much emphasis on front fogs and DRLS on here these days.

As already mentioned the biggest plebs on the roads are the rear fog light offenders.The worst of those are the idiots who put them on when it's raining.FFS they have no idea how dazzling and blinding those rears can be on a wet road,made much worse at night.Giving them a quick flash doesn't deter them either,totally oblivious to it.

A good many years ago, back when I had my first MK3 Cavalier (a 2.0 CDi no less) the fact it had front fogs was a novelty and it meant I had another light on the dashboard, I *may* have amused myself by barreling around the country lanes where I lived with beams and front fogs on like a poor man's Juha Kankkunen

However, in my defense, I did reserve this activity for the night time, not broad daylight and always had the decency to dip the beam and knock off the fogs whenever something was coming the other way...
