Received this email today from a large midlands based dealer named after a five-sided polygon. Do they really expect us to believe this?

email said:
We are delighted to announce that we have been chosen to host the exclusive Seat VIP Event 2012 and that you have been chosen, along with a friend, to attend this forthcoming Closed Showroom VIP Event to be held locally at Seat - your Approved VIP Event Retailer 2012.

This will be no ordinary event.

In fact, all preview guests are by invitation only and entry to the Seat showroom from 14th - 16th September 2012 will be by Appointment & VIP Security Pass (this will be issued prior to the event upon confirmation of attendance).

Some vehicles will be sold at less than cost price!

As we have already said, this will be no ordinary Seat Event.
Unlike any other event - this will be your chance to drive away a Brand New 62 Plate or Quality Used Seat with not just dealer level discount but with an additional manufacturer authorised VIP bonus discount.

The event will run like this:-

• Seat will close its doors early to the general public on Thursday 13th September 2012 in order to specially discount every vehicle on site.

• As a VIP guest you are invited to attend this 3 Day Closed Showroom VIP Event from 10am Friday 14th to 5pm Sunday 16th September 2012 where, on top of any screen priced discount, the Seat Management Team will be on hand to authorise an extra discount especially for you - this will be your exclusive Seat VIP Bonus.

• All remaining stock will be offered to the general public throughout the following week at dealer level discount only - without the additional Seat VIP Bonus

To arrange your appointment to our exclusive VIP event simply call 08451287345 or click on the button below.

Not looking to change your car right now? No problem - simply register as an invited guest and use your VIP Bonus to pre-order a new Seat for later in the year!
I won't be going!

The group I used to work for held these events, company called rhino marketing behind it all.

They seemed not a bad way to get the exact car you want cheaper than it would of been, but I found it very tacky, red carpet and celebrity cardboard cutouts. Invitation only, but turn up on the day and you get spiel"closed for a vip event but will see if I can get you in" which of course they did.

I had to take customers on test drives, ok for me, double time for driving a golf gti around. But very pressured sales, each guy had about 6 customers an hour all day. Only reason you are vip invited is because you are in the target market for changing your car (end of finance etc)

Funnily enough, when i went to a local Vauxhall dealer recently (spur of the moment decision) it was slap bang in the middle of their VIP day

They were only too happy to let me in, so much so in fact that they tried to make me wear one of their special VIP lanyards. No chance, the salesman actually seemed a bit put out that i declined to wear it despite it making me look more of a nobber than usual.

If they let me in, clearly it isn't that special!
