Why won't people use pay-at-pump?

Probably because it's new and they don't posess the reasoning skills to work it out, in much the same way they avoid self serve checkouts.

I can't use the one at my local shell as my card isn't recognised by their machine.

The printers never, ever work or are always out of paper.

Shell have removed pay at pump where I am and the newly built Sainsburys doesn't have that facility which I think is shortsighted of them.

Not everybody likes using their card to pay for things some people prefer cash. I dont see what the problem is

coz many company fuel cards wont work on 'pay at pump'

Paying by cash, getting cashback, buying something in the shop, wanting a VAT receipt, limit on pay at pump amount etc

Because the Shell one i tried asked me the amount before i filled up? how the fuk do i know? i just want to brim it! plus most of the points raised above ^^^^

The printer is always broken at my local Tesco one - so if I had to get a receipt for business use i would always goes in.

Not everybody has a debit card and even if they did, not all debit cards work for pay-at-pump. The Co-Op bank for instance requires a live balance check for each payment where as pay-at-pump takes the card before you pump the fuel - so the bank doesnt know how much money you're going to take. So it doesnt work.

I've never used Pay @ Pump myself. Always pay inside at the kiosk even if i'm using my card. Although this is mainly because i normally also pick up a bottle of drink at the same time, and i don't fancy drinking what the pumps serve

The Pay @ Pump setup in the 2 Tesco filling stations local to me regularly used to be blocked off anyway due to the setup not working. Seems to have been sorted in one of them but that was only because they've fitted new pumps, so also new machines.

The thing that annoys me more at petrol stations are the people who drive in, park blocking a pump and then walk off to the cash machine. Fair enough if they need cash to pay for their petrol, but bloody annoying when after getting cash they come back to their car and then drive off CheeRS for blocking the pump when you could have parked in front of the machine itself

I used an Asda one that pre authorised £100 from my account and then returned £52 later in the day. Had I not had £100 that would have been impossible.

1) Tesco
2) New pumps, all credit cards welcome, all printers working
3) No humans behind the desk in this Tesco
4) Particular guy I was moaning about had no vouchers, and paid with a credit card. I could see him through the window
