Problem with Astra 1.7 diseasal rear door lock

Evening all
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what could be wrong with the wife's 04 Astra sxi 1.7 diesel (I know -it was her choice!)
Basically yesterday she asked me somewhat out of the blue why her rear passenger door (drivers side) wasn't locking. Sadly I'm about as mechanically minded as a newt, so my one fall back option (other than hitting it with a hammer) was to unplug the battery for about an hour tonight. This made no difference what so ever.
I'm now wondering if it could be an issue with the ecu. The car had an after market immobiliser fitted when we bought the car, but recently it has started randomly immobilising the car, necessitating using the manual override key.
Any ideas as to the problem?!

Check the wiring loom between the door and body, the wires sometimes break

Many thanks for the advice. Pardon my ignorance, but is the wiring loom found in the black tubing that runs from door to bodywork? Am I looking for a cable that is literally snapped?!

Yes if you push the blue casing clip in on the door the plug should pull of, then unclip the grey round clip on the plug an pull the black boot down, will probably find a broken wire

My Mum's fella's Astra estate had a fit of the fevers at about 5 years old; it refused to respond to the remote locking/unlocking via the key, the central locking didn't work any more when doors were locked/unlocked manually and the tailgate wouldn't open at all. Some parallel thinking found the connector on an ECU on the inside of the A-post in the driver's footwell (behind plastic trim) was loose/falling off. This is a Mk 4 Astra - Astra G if you're a Vauxhall fan watching in colour - and the central locking has been fine ever since the connector was pushed back properly .

Anyway... OP, does the affected door lock and unlock manually (using the button on the door plinth)? If so, it's an electrical problem as others have posted; if not, it's a problem in the door.

And if the central locking just doesn't seem to be 'right' any more, it might be the connector as per the first paragraph. Cost to check this is your time only and maybe a Haynes book o'lies if it's not an Astra G .

Many thanks for all the advice, it really is much appreciated!
Sadly the car doesnt have a method of manually locking the doors from the inside (eg no stalks to press down, or things in the door handles like the focus has), so it's not possible to check the locking system this way. I will have a look at the loom as suggested, but if that fails it'll have to go to the garage.

With this sort of issue, do you think it would be best to go to the official vauxhall garage, or do you reckon my local indy would be ok?

So it turns out that it was a kinked wire? according to my friendly neighbourhood indy!
Hopefully that'll sort it out now!
