How badly did you butcher your first car with aftermarket accesories? Mine had a tasteful "sports" steering wheel (complete with extra cover because it had split) to replace the OEM Routemaster bus size original. It also had slot mags (on original section tyres), spot lamps forward, fog lamps aft, a big-bore Peco exhaust to replace the OEM pea-shooter and even a dodgy second-hand radio/cassette was an upgrade over the single speaker push-button radio. The final icing on the cake were the Twin carbs. People must have thought I was just the best!
First car was a 2 litre crapi.
I added stupidly low springs (-2") which meant crawling over any kind of speed bump for fear of leaving the exhaust behind.
I thought it looked good, but was not exactly practical. never again.
It did actually drive well though, on smooth surfaces.
other mods were a K&N and a 4 branch / free flow exhaust, would happily do that again.

Never did a thing to any of my cars - I was terrified of my dad like many were in those days. He thought "mods" puerile and a waste of money. Life was different then (1969), what with TB and Rickets, and the local squire throwing us off his land ....
Cars didn't have radios back then (well, not in my price range), and I remember fitting for the first time to a '74 Escort Sport (Olympic Blue) - my dad gave me a hammer and a punch, and made me hit the hole through the wing for the aerial. He wanted me to feel the pain.

My first car it had a pipercross cone filter , 2" exhaust and decat, janspeed manifold , fse boost valve , lowered the suspension and put on avo adjustable shocks. Upgraded the brakes and braided hoses .
The clutch gave in so I thought it was the perfect time to put a 1.8 engine in while it was in bits. Then it had an emerald ecu. Jenvey dth throttle bodies . I never got round to fitting the vhpd head though.

I loved the modding scen when I was young. my first car on the road was a Corsa B. 40mm drop, 18's with no arch work (rubbed like a byatch) mahoosive body kit, and the rear seats taken out for a load of sub woofers, Ford Imperial blue paint with silver metal flakes. I'm prepared for a battering....!

My first 2 cars stayed completely standard.
My 3rd though, a Saxo, got some bilstein dampers, shorter springs, a Sparco Pro 2000 and 4 point harness, bigger brakes from a 306, an after market GMC manifold, and a supersprint exhaust system.
Wasn't that bad actually. I mean, I don't look back at pictures and think "What was i doing?! That's awful"
Sounds sensible and restrained for a Saxo.My 3rd though, a Saxo, got some bilstein dampers, shorter springs, a Sparco Pro 2000 and 4 point harness, bigger brakes from a 306, an after market GMC manifold, and a supersprint exhaust system.

Both the Saxo and it's 106 cousin are fantastic little cars, and there are a large number of wonderful modified examples out there too. Sadly for every wonderful example, there are dozens of ruined sheds of s
te.New floors welded in as the old ones - well, I sat in the drivers seat and ended up sitting in hole rather than on seat, Oversized tyres - 165 section over the standard 145s
An extra notch cut into the suspension selector for added lowness good old Citroen Hydractive suspension.

I've had a Ka, S1 Elise, 523, TT and 320d.
The only car I've modified was the elise.
It got the following:
S2 bilstein shocks (including precision machined higher rear mounting brackets to fit the rear shocks)
Yoko Advan Neova LTS tyres
Quick and dirty head port
Piper 272 cams
Verniers (to help tune/cope with the cams on the original ECU)
Sundry "anti HGF" bits (head gasket, dowels..etc)
Quickshift
Revised gear linkage kit
Ally rad
The cams were probably the best part, in terms of making the engine feel less truculent.

The only car I've ever modified was my 2nd MR2.
I put a Mongoose exhaust with decat pipe on it,
Imported an Apexi Power intake filter from Japan to replace the stock airfilter
I fitted braided brake hoses (and didn't notice any difference...)
It already had aftermarket wheels when I bought it
Cosmetically I replaced the yellow indicator lenses for colourless ones and fitted a high-level brake light into the rear screen surround from an import
It's the only car I've regretted selling

My first car got spot lights, stereo fitted under the driver's seat, body coloured steel wheels, side exit exhaust, electric winscreen washer and big bumpers.
Still a 2CV though. The bumpers and spot lights looked perfect in the Sahara when the new owner took it there, so I like to think I was rally-preping it for him.
