Bad Finance idea?

So i'm going to be buying a car but I won't get the funds necessary until the end of this month at the earliest, maybe even the beginning of next month.
Now, the problem is, I've seen a great bargain (or what seems like one, not been to look yet! Are links allowed now that we're magazine owned and the ads are paid?) Leon Cupra R on Autotrader (Eh54 on the postcode checker, within 100 miles, £3795) and while it is a little over budget I could probably stretch if I could get a wee bit off and I sell my iPad to free up another £300 or so and I have my ratty old GTi-6 to trade in but I reckon that's, at most, £200-£250.
So, as the price seems to be so great I really can't envision the car still being there in 3 weeks time. if I were to approach him now and ask for finance, using my car as a pitiful deposit how much would I be bent over if i then phone the finance company in 3-4 weeks time and say 'I'd like to make a £3,000 payment please' and suddenly find there's another £800 (Or more!) left on the agreement? Will most finance agreements add the interest onto the total at the start or will it add a small amount to the loan after I make a payment as some finance agreements do?
Basically do I take the chance it'll still be there in 3 weeks time and hope I'll get am absolute bargain or take the car early and get hit in the pocket?

cupra r's aren't exactly rare in which case - I'd wait and give it some time.

Not getting a credit card. Had one before and really don't want one again.
North of the border Cupra R's aren't very common. In fact most cars are a lot rarer to find compared to in the south east and midlands. There are very few choices of non 'normal' cars up here. When i search for an Accord Type R on AT for example the closest one for sale is 160 miles away. According to AT there are NONE in Scotland for sale.

Rear discs and pads need doing. Because of this handbrake doesn't work very well and almost points at the ceiling and even then it needs left in gear to be sure.
Radiator Fans don't work. Not sure if it's fans or thermostat. (no idea of location of mystical 'brown connector' to test) not really a problem for me as I rarely drive in traffic.
In typical GTI-6 fashion the aircon doesn;t work and never has in my ownership
Front bumper is broken and needs replaced. The grille is missing and it's cracked at the bottom and tied with sticky tape.
it only has one foglight, the other went missing years ago. The one that's there is broken anyway!
Wheels need refurbed badly as they lacquer has peeled and is almost rusty looking on all four.
It needs a service
It has a rust patch above the rear drivers side wheel. About the size of the palm of my hand.
It leaks from the aerial so when it's wet it drips on you or your passenger when you go round a corner
It's starting to knock from what I think is a front top suspension top mount.
The drivers seat Alcantara has split leaving a side plate size hole and another small one on the squab. The seat itself isn't damaged but it makes it look terrible and really drags it down inside
The central locking doesn't open the drivers door. Then after a few months it will. how long it works for is unknown. Then it will stop suddenly and may not work again for weeks, sometimes months.
The rear wash doesn't squirt.
The rear wiper doesn't wipe!
The dash lights sometimes don't come on when the headlights do until you give the top of the dash a smack.
The 'lights on buzzer' has warned me twice in 3 years. And scared the hell out of me each time.
Both front arch liners are missing. One fell out at times unknown. The other departed at 75MPH on the M74 about a mile short of Abingdon and scared the s
t out of me while doing it.The drivers side fron wheel is porous and lets the air out slowly.
The good things?
Well it had a new clutch and gearbox oil late last year
it has MOT until July next year
it's had loads of bits replaced including track rod ends, suspension mounts, front pads, new radiator, front left suspension, brake lines and probably more I can't think of now but I have receiuts for it all.
Cambelt isn't due for another 12-14k as it was done at 103,000 and it has 126k on it now.
It has two good front tyres (Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response 2) and a nearly new Hankook Ventus Evo 12 rear after a puncture. The other rear has an old Yokohama on it but it wasn't even an advisory at MOT
Don't get me wrong, it's engine is still fantastic and still goes like the clappers but it's all the other stuff, all the cosmetic stuff that really lets the car down. I wouldn't say no to something a bit more economical and a bit more modern/reliable as I reckon i struggle to get 30MPG from it on average and it feels like something needs fixing every couple of months.
If someone wanted to turn it into a track car it would be ideal, but it's the hassle of selling it that I really want to avoid and I can't be without a car for anything more than a few days at the very most, ideally not at all hence trading it in appeals. No doubt I could get more on ebay or gumtree but one had to get rid of one's Butler recently so one will have to speak with the public by oneself.

I'm keeping it going though at the moment.. It's tatty and there are a lot of 'niggles' but it still a great car. I've removed a fair amount of weight from it so I don't have things like the rear wipers or aircon to worry about :PGassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
