Isuzu trooper 3.0D DOHC engine problems?
Discussion
We have an Isuzu as above at work - under 2 years old but 66k miles so 6k outside of warranty
It has starting problems and increased fuel consumption. Also 7% diesel in the oil!!! So basically its about to go pop in a big way
Having spoken to a mechanic it appears there may be a common problem with this engine. Has anyone else had an problems? Were they sorted by dealers?
The two isuzu dealers near us have others with similar problems awaiting repair - very worrying

Just gone over the 100,000 mile mark on my 3.0 without any major problems. It did go through a phase around 60,000 miles with an intermittent starting/cold running problem, but this was cured after several trips to the dealer and many new parts! Everything has been effortlessly covered by the warranty which I luckiily extended at 60,000 miles, but the comprehensive warranty is not available over 100,000 miles so fingers crossed now.
Have searched the web and can't seem to find much more about the engine problems - Isuzu must be doing a good cover up job
Only found one other very bad report about engine problems.
Although in the motoring section of the saturday telegraph a reader expressed his concern about reliability when choosing his next car.
From what i've read/heard the problems only affect the 3.0D - the new common rail version. The older 3.1 is fine.

Syptoms like that suggest clogged or damaged injectors.
Starting problems, power loss and fuel in oil can all be attributed to inadequate spray, reduced comprssion or low injection pressures.
I'd say, comp check first, easy to do, glow pugs out. Change the oil as a matter of course as that's gonna kil the rest of the engine pretty quick.
After that if you're still not having any joy have the fuel pressure tested by a fuel pump specialist and then that should point you in the direction of that fix. If the pressures down, new pump, if not injectors out and have them checked then overhauled/replaced.
====HIJACK ALERT====
Sorry.....I got a bit excited because I have one of the Mk 2 3.1TD versions.
I know its cheeky, but does anyone have any idea where I can get either FITTED seat covers, or a set of replacement seats...?
I have 'orrible grey seats and I want to rob some of the recaro ones off someone.

Go to the Isuzu Trooper owners club website and start weeping. This is a very well known problem with the injectors on the 3LD leaking fuel into the cylinders thus the sump. When this happens and the oil level rises, the engine can (and does) "run away" to destruction. Oh by the way Isuzu are pretty good - service campaign coming in 06 for ALL UK 3LD's incl those outside warrenty.
