How easy is it to syphon fuel...

Out of a 1999 Shogun?

Is it as simple as sticking a hosepipe into the tank and sucking, or will there be some sort of internal safety structure in the tank that will get in the way?

Should be straight forward as that.
Another way is to remove a pipe and let it drain or pump it put with the fuel pump.

some 4x4's have a drain plug on the fuel tank...

Have a look under there first.

Hmm. Not sure I fancy removing a drain plug with 80 litres of fuel above me!

Only do this though if its not your car, or your scrapping it.

Look underneath the car, many cars filler pipes are attached to the tank with a jubilee clip, undo this (WD40 first) pull off the pipe and syphon directly from the tank.

Or, preferably, remove the tank completely and drain.

Either way it's a dirty, time consuming process, the syphoning alone could take an hour.

That's what drain plugs are for, I'm afraid. Plenty of cars have them.

If it has a lift pump, unclip the hose and let the fuel pump do the work....

One of my friends had this done to his Clio twice in a month while it was parked on his drive. Makes me wonder what the do-as-you-likeys collected the petrol in as it drained out of the tank.

I did it to a car i was scrapping with about 20L in it.

I just Put a bucket under, then decanted into a fuel can, and used it for the lawn mower.

It was quite scary as it was a metal tank, so one spark, and i would have been toast
