Least appropriate track cars?
Discussion
The active cornering enhancement on a Discovery 2 is really quite clever. Using hydraulically controlled anti roll bars, it keeps the huge SUV upright in tight bends, permitting just a hint of body roll at higher speeds to tell you you're being a spanner.
However, the interesting bit is that the ECU for it can be reprogrammed to make it corner totally flat, or even lean in like a motorbike! This, coupled with huge grippy 255/55 tyres and a torquey TD engine makes me think it would actually be a pretty good, if very weird, track day weapon!!
Unfortunately, there is more chance of pigs flying than me being allowed by the parents to track day my Disco, but it got me wondering - can anyone else think of a highly inappropriate track day vehicle that has a secret weapon making it rather good for circuit use? This could be entertaining

Why? Are you less than 16?
No, but I live at home when not at Uni, the car stays there and they contributed towards it financially on the proviso I took good care of it and didn't off road it as heavily as my Series. And if I don't like their rules, I can apparently find a new roof to live under complete with garage space for 2 cars, traction engine and all my tools. I should imagine that if they found out I'd tracked it, I would swiftly have the keys confiscated not really that unlikely, but I've seen this on another forum, massive lean.

but it has a saxo vts 120hp 16v under the bonnet, with the ax's light weight body should be fun.

A diesel Discovery...and you think it would actually be good on a track? However, the interesting bit is that the ECU for it can be reprogrammed to make it corner totally flat, or even lean in like a motorbike! I think I agree with the OP to some extent. It would be fun, especially in the wet. It would not be fast, but exploring some of the limits could be a giggle.Someone take this boy out in a Caterham, stat.
I've seen a Ford 7.5 tonne box van with a tail lift taken round a track. That had a scary amount of lean through the chicane.
Also did a track day where a guy turned up in a brand new Bentley Conti GT which he drove slowly round corners but mashed it down the straights. At the end of the day the front was totally stone chipped and the back tyres were through to the canvass.

I've seen the results of a D3 going ass-over-tit at about 15mph on a tarmac hairpin bend that had a slight lip on the inside (Prodrive Fen-end track actually). You can spout on about "active antiroll bars" till you are blue in the face, but believe me, when you're sliding along on your roof, all the active chassis tech in the world aint much use.......... ;-)
