The best diesel for 10k?

Soot machines aren't really my thing as I haven't had one since my first ever car in 2001 so I'm appealing to PH for some assistance and advice.

I need one that is firstly very reliable as this will be my motorway cruiser for work and it must return at least 40mpg on a run. It'll be replacing my R32 so something with a few toys and a lot of comfort is also high on the list but as for the drive itself I'd like something at least a little bit entertaining to go with a whallop worth of torque. Oh and no hatchbacks

As for options as a bare minimum it must have the following:

o heated leather seats
o auto lights, wipers, dimming mirror
o good stereo, ideally iphone connectivity
o armrest

So does this sound like a BMW, Audi, Honda?

330d. not sure why you'd consider anything else. Except perhaps a 535d (not many 335ds for budget. -35ds only auto tho)

You can spend as much as you want on a diesel but the downside is you'll still end up with a diesel.

What sort of mileage are you looking to stack on?

My money would be a tidy Volvo S60 for 7-8k and keep some change.

10k will get you a decent 530d, or abit more and get a 535d. Try one definatley.

Has to be the 330d M sport or if you need space the 530d M sport.

Also doing that milage get the auto plus if you ever want to up the ante remap you need the auto as the manual box cannot take the higher power while the auto box takes the x35d and corvettes .... Yep it's the exact same gearbox.


3 series will be more or a drivers tool than the 5.

Also you have to get Pro Nav and Bluetooth and leather. I have a Tom Tom but have to say it doesn't compare to the Pronav

The 3 series should see you in at 0.17 pence per mile on fuel the 5 series will be higher. A petrol equivalent to these would be upwards of 0.26 pence per ltr.
Tyres I don't have run flats just basic Michellin Pilot sport 3's with no spare just the foam I have them very hard and get over 40k out of a set. Currently I'm on nearly 37k and counting and I do drive it hard often else I'd get a 316ES....

if you're doing 20k a year, you want a car with lower milage so you can get the life out of it.

You'd only get an old 330d for that cash.
