A myth that convertibles and camper vans etc are best bought at the end of the summer as people try to shift 'em?

I don't get it, what makes it so undrivable during winter that you'd want to sell it, or keep it off the road until the weather gets better? If you have a leaky roof then fair enough. But they all have heaters in them.

No, you're right. Convertible prices don't move much with the seasons these days. Heater, electric windows, heated rear window, well-sealed roof etc.Am I missing something?
When I bought my MX5 it was February, and the dealer had had it since November of the year before. It had been up for £3000, but then we had a crap winter with loads of snow and I grabbed it for £2500. So a little bit of a saving. He had also shaved the price of the 1.8 MX5 he also had in stock. But that was an exceptional circumstance, as he sells loads of MX5's and this was the best one he had in, and it had been for sale for ages! I think it was the never-ending snow of that winter that made him drop the price. And just as well, as I enjoyed that car. But it was often f
king freezing until the heaters warmed up! 
I think on the private market, the desire to sell at the end of summer may be reflected in the pricing but most dealers just go by book/auction price and stick their ticket on top once they've polished it up. I fancy another MX5 now...

Far, far too early for any effect. There are still leaves on the trees and people are commuting in daylight.
When it's early Nov and the clocks have changed an everyone I a bit miserable and it's raining then will find convertibles cheaper as people are more keen to get shot ahead of Christmas and no same person is thinking about buying.

Plenty of decent spec. cars around for the same or less money - and that photo is of a wet car, which can hide a multitude of sins.

I think it would be better to spend a grand on a good one than spend £500 on a dog of a car which is a jap import without any rust proofing which needs a couple of grand to get mint.
And if the op is like myself then I rather spend a bit more and get a decent one to start with.

I really can't see any factory applying protection to just some cars and not others - the shell is just a shell on a production line, the differences were in the trim and some of the bolt on mechanical bits.

Thats not a bargain ive just bought a eunos roadster 1990 1.6 for just 400 quid allthough it hasn't got a mot but only had to spend 60 quid on it and just welding left to do to get it through a mot so 500 quid all in and not in bad nick here is mine.

Your going to save yourself money buying a better car in the long run also isn't a mx5 on a p plate the last of the pop up headlight models so I would say its desirable.
If it was my money and the car was as good as it looks in the pictures and drives well, I know what I would be spending my money on.
