Who updates their garage profile?

So who bothers to update the blogs on their cars?

I am only asking because it seems that hardly anyone on the site does.

I keep mine as up to date as I can. Not only is it a useful tool for me to see how much I have spent on the car over the years (far faaaaar too much) at a glance but I hope that others find it useful if they are considering buying a car like mine, or indeed like any that I have owned. To see what the general running costs, repair bills, pitfalls of ownership are etc.

Generally when I am thinking about what toy to spend my hard earned on I try to find out as much about the type. Thinking that PH is generally a wonderful resource I have been disappointed to see that hardly anyone bothers to write up about the running costs etc of their car on their profile. That is indeed if they have bothered to tell us what they drive in the first place!

Sorry for the mini rant, I just feel that we (the PH community) are missing out on what is potentially a great tool, for both owners and buyers alike.

I keep my Z4 up to date, and I kept my TVR up to date too. The more mundane stuff I don't tend to bother.

I like to think that potential owners may be availed of the potential running costs of the car and use it to inform their decision.

It's funny this thread should come up today as I got an email earlier from the new owner of my old Impreza, saying he'd seen my garage entry and wanted to let me know where the car was, as well as asking a couple of questions about it.

I've been falling behind a little recently but perhaps in the next few weeks when I'm not as busy as I've been I'll get a chance to pen a few words.

Yeah it comes as a bit of a shock when you see exactly how much you have spent on the car(s). More than its worth in my case

I've listed what I currently own... to list what I have owned in the past? That would take forever... and figuring costs? On my old stuff? If I figured it out I'd probably fall into a deep depression.

Generally keep whats there up to date, but the numbers details would just be gibberish - wrong currency, KM not miles, and the fact that a GBP85k Nissan 370Z as a starting point would be absolutely bugger all use for referance to most people here.

Cost of ownership here is a much more complex calculation involving PARF's, ARF's, COE's, Rebates, Export values and other such TLA's

Yes, because this site used to be about the cars people owned and drove, not a bunch of keyboard warriors moaning about cars they will never even sit in.

The Garage tool is useful when looking to buy a car, it gives insight into common issues and running costs - however it is very inconsistent.

I kept my Griffith fully up to date, and I've kept my Focus up to date since purchase five years ago. It's a very handy resource for keeping track of all costs and work carried out.

I've got an Excel spreadsheet with every fuel purchase on it as well

In addition to a spreadsheet and nifty multi-line graphs I keep (even in an office of accountants I'm thought of as a sad one), I also use Fuelly.com to track spend.

And while I don't update all these details in my garage, it's there if I need it. Cars in garage are updated though.

Exactly, I am sure when I first joined the site that more people used to keep their garage profiles up to date. It is such a useful tool for checking out REAL LIFE running costs. I often have a look to see if I can find information out about a type of car that I am dreaming of buying.

I started keeping my garage up-to-date during the PH Subaru competition, and plan to continue doing so. It doesn't take long to add the odd expense every now and again, and as said, it is a handy tally of costs and can be handy reading for others.

Always nice to see an up-to-date garage
