Driving around your local area you become familiar with certain cars you see everyday / most days. Recently I've encountered two pretty monumental car upgrades (I know it's the same people due to the same private plates on the new cars)

The first is a guy I see daily as he lives not too far who has upgraded from a previous shape diesel C Class Mercedes to a Maserati QP.

Second is a guy who I've seen driving an Audi A3 diesel for about 2 years who has recently upgraded to an R8!

Anyone else witnessed similar?

Probably not the biggest, but I went from a 2000 Clio 172 to a 2006 350Z Roadster GT this week.

My mate went from a Pug 206 diesel to an E36 328 Sport.

Other than that, most people just go from one generation of dull car to the next.

Neighbour has been making good use of the cheap Mercedes-Benz lease deals lately - went from 1.8T Audi A5 and 53 plate Mini Cooper to a new C63 saloon and a new SLK200. The C63 sounds epic, and the guy doesn't hang around ears.

Someone on our estate must've had a very productive 12 months.

I've seen the same private plate go from a '11 plate Fiesta Zetec S Diesel last summer, to a Mk2 Focus RS in around March and last week I saw him in a new M3.

Scruffy looking bd aswell!

Six months ago, my only car was a Fiat Qubo 1.3 diesel - one of the slowest accelerating cars available today, with just 75bhp.
Now I've got a 911 (964) and a 525d E61.

I'm going the other way hehe

Had a tough year financially and have been cutting cloth accordingly... Went from a new £20k Focus ST to a new £30k BMW 123d to an R-plate 328i.

I've spotted a pleasing pattern though, I've gone:

2.8 6cyl petrol > 2.5T 5cyl petrol > 2.0 4cyl diesel > 2.8 6cyl petrol... biggrin

wavey Hope you're well. 2.8 6cyl for the win!

I went from an £800 Mk2 MR2 N/A to a 911.

Then back down again to a 2.8 Z3 biggrin

Ironically I love the Z much much more.

Hello FLG, not heard from you in a while then you pop up on my LinkedIn as 'someone I might know' this morning and here too! (I'm still mildly spooked by LI's accuracy..).

We'll have to organise something for the SCers, it's been too long. Your Z3 looks cracking, always had a soft spot for those (and 2.8 straight sixes definitely win!). Here's my 'new' smoker:
