Selling a car,.. V5 not present (yet)
Discussion
I recently bought a car about 4-5 weeks ago from a used car dealership and now want to sell it on to a family member, but I haven't received the V5 back from the DVLA. It seems the dealers only sent it off last thursday, meaning that I might not now get it back for another 4-6 weeks.
How can I sell the car and start to transfer ownership so they can then go ahead and insure it (won't they have to state that they are the registered keeper and have at least some proof to that effect?).
Thanks in advance. Apologies if I'm missing something glaringly obvious here..

Thanks for the reply.. My query isn't about proving ownership to the person buying it..it's actually my son who I'm 'selling' it to and he knows full well it belongs to me! I want him to own the car and have his own insurance on it, so my question is about when he comes to fill the insurance form out declaring that he is the registered owner (important to his quote).
How can he state that he is new owner to the new insurers satisfaction, when the DVLA have only just received information that I am the current keeper (I'm still sure I'm missing something obvious.. point it out to me will ya?)

Just get your kid to fill in the ins as the reg'd keeper and forget about it. The bit about the V5 only just being sent off by the dealer is irrelevant because you will still have to do that yourself when you transfer it into your kid's name anyway. You're worrying far too much about things that don't need worrying about. How can he state that he is new owner to the new insurers satisfaction, when the DVLA have only just received information that I am the current keeper (I'm still sure I'm missing something obvious.. point it out to me will ya?)
